About us

The Club culturel francophone de Thunder Bay (CCFTB) is a non-profit organization working in Thunder Bay and the surrounding area to bring together and unite Francophones and Francophiles of all ages through social activities and cultural, artistic and heritage projects.

Throughout the year, the CCFTB works with a variety of educational, community and institutional partners; contributes to the development of the local Francophonie; and promotes cultural diversity in the community.

We thank the Ministry of Canadian Heritage for its continuous support, as well as the Ontario Arts Council for its contribution to the “La Francophonie dans tous ses états” project.

Want to know what’s happening in French in the area?

Starting your French-language journey?

  • order a Sugar Shack for your school, business, or private event! Every winter, we keep the maple toffee tradition alive. Feeling like helping out? The Sugar Shack is also a favourite at the Voyageur Winter Carnival and at Winter FunDays events. By offering your time as a volunteer, you’ll be taught how to make the famous French-Canadian treat (we can teach in English) and learn new French words. Or, you can just stop by to say “Bonjour” and get a maple syrup cornet or stick.

  • check out our bilingual exhibitions “Francophones of the Northwest: History and Heritage” and “Pride in the Northwest: 400 Years of French Presence in Ontario” (10 banners each). Created in 2013-2014 with the support of the ministry of Canadian Heritage and AFNOO, they are a wonderful learning tool for all. In order to make the history more accessible, the content of both exhibitions was then gathered into a book that includes a new chapter on local Francophone organizations.

  • you’ve learned French a long time ago (or you just started), and words aren’t coming so easily? Join our “café-causerie” to practice conversing in French in a relaxed environment. Our volunteers welcome participants every Thursday from 6:00pm to 7:00pm for drop-in sessions. Whether you want to come for 5 minutes every now and then or for an hour every week, that is your choice! Café-causerie sessions are currently offered online only.

  • you love to sing - and have a thing for French music? What about singing in a French choir? Conducted by local musician Martin Blanchet since 2016, our group of singers meets once a week to practice, and performs several times a year at local events such as the Franco-Festival or the Folklore Festival. Choir practices are currently on hold.

  • you believe that languages and art are connected? So do we! Through the project “La Francophonie dans tous ses états”, we support a community of artists who share a connection with the French language and Francophone cultural diversity. With project coordinator Sébastien Hardy, we also work towards making art more accessible to all, and encourage dialogue between artists, art lovers, and local youth.

  • looking for a funny way to promote the use of French language? Check out our “Je parle français, don’t be jealous” buttons - or place a custom order if you’d like a different message!
